Anyone know of a curriculum home school of primary mathematics?

My family has tried several different approaches to mathematics. We finally settled on "Math-U-See." There are two different and distinct concepts that you may want to consider to evaluate a math curriculum. The first is to develop an understanding of the concepts, the second is to provide enough practice for the child / Student has mastered the skill without boring them to death. A 3rd grade level, the child is usually able to memorize better than concepualize and third grade is usually the introduction to multiplication and division. With this in mind, here are some observations of the curriculum we've tested: Saxon: Very heavy in practice, but a little light in the understanding of concepts. Before Saxon Publishing merged in a large text book (Harcourt) house, his product was better. The going rate is for a program secondary education, used in recovery and not a staple. Very popular homeschooler and people with a tendency towards a very realistic or philosophy Thomistic Singapore Education: Well-balanced approach, but requires a significant amont of teacher education. This is the text that keeps Singapore in the top of TIMSS test. My children did not stay interested in it for long. K12: workbook with a lot of colors of interactivity online. Even after it stopped using K12, we used the workbook as a fill in while we waited for the Math-u-see material. Comes with some objects that are manipulated bit corny, small and easily lost. Handlers are not well integrated compared with others. Holt School Mathematics ugghhh! That is what we to shop at the thrift store. Math-U-See: Comes with a workbook, A Teacher in a book, a DVD, and a higher set of manipulatives. The manipulators are key to this system, and integrate throughout the series. One of the things that sold my wife on this system was his "Aha" moment of seeing a video demonstration. Another great feature of Math-U-See is the DVD, containing recorded lectures by the author of the system. We have created so that children can see DVD in any computer in the house, then do homework. This allows you the freedom to mother teaches others while one is doing math. And I have to do the classification, correction, and instruction suplimental when I get home from work, which can sometimes look like Elvis … girls mobbing Some other programs studies I've heard of, but you should not use: Math Connections, Math Investigations, and other "new" or "curriculum constructivist. These curricula are tilted too heavily toward the concept of "side", without providing a solid foundation in skill and practice. With all that said, the curriculum mathematics at the best in the world is … the world. When you have a math problem to do, have your child help you with it. And be extended to do so. I needed to order supplies for the lighting of a play the other day, and had my 9 years of age to calculate the amounts and prices for me. He loved she has to help with something important sooooo not even realize it was a math lesson.
